Memorial Day is a holiday in which we remember and honor the men and women who have died protecting our country in the United States serve. Most of us know what the holiday is about, however, we use it as a day to celebrate the beginning of summer with neighbors, family, and friends. Whether we celebrate the whole weekend by going away, go to the beach, or throw a BBQ with lots of food. How many of us really focus on our veterans and try to give back?
Let’s start a new tradition if you haven’t done so already and give back to those in need, instead of looking for an excuse to get drunk or eat too much. Here are some things you can do this Memorial Day weekend for others who might need your help or companionship for the day:
1. Visit a Nursing Home
There are many veterans and other lonely elderly people in nursing homes around the United States that can use your services. Whether you just keep them company for a few hours and listen to the fascinating stories of their past experiences, play a game, or just share a nice meal with them. Anything that you can do for our forgotten grandmas and grandpas will be such an amazing contribution and it really doesn’t take much but your time. Here is a home you can find a nursing home in your area, just call them up and see when you can visit someone who can use the company.
2. Donate Money, Food, and/ or Clothing to Charity
Find an organization that needs your support this Memorial Day in your community. You can go to your local church, school, city hall, homeless shelter, you name it. Even check out your local police station or firehouse to see how you can help out in any way. People are always looking for others to donate. Whatever you can do or give so other people who are you need can benefit would be a great help to your community. Here is how to find some charities that need your help.
3. Head to a Museum to Find Out More History about Memorial Day and Bring Kids Along to Educate Them
Plan a trip to a museum where you can learn more about the history of America and the military. This is a great time to learn the history that you may or may not have known plus bring some kids along so they can get educated too. This is still a fun way to celebrate Memorial Day without the drunken drama or getting a tummy ache from eating way too much BBQ. Pick a nice spot outside after your done where you can have a picnic and chat about what you have learned and what your favorite part of the museum was. Memorial Day Museum in New York
‘And they shall be as mighty men, treading down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle; and they shall fight, because Jehovah is with them; and the riders on horses shall be confounded. ‘ Zechariah 10:5
Please share any other ideas that you have to celebrate Memorial Day or anything you have done in the past so others may get inspired by your story. I would also like to hear from any veterans as well, please feel free to share your story in the comments below.
Happy Monday! I hope your work week started off OK and even if it didn’t go as smoothly as you hoped for so far with a little help from the man upstairs things I’m sure things will turn around for the better. Jesus can help you and He wants to help you if you have faith, be steadfast in prayer (no matter what life throws your way), read the bible, and don’t forget to help others. Sometimes if you take the focus off of us and put the focus more on other things seem to slowly fall into place.
Remember don’t let the devil get you down and steer you away from the truth. Many people claim to “know God” or to be “a child of God” however doesn’t believe in the Bible or the prophecies that go with it. I am not an expert or a scholar on the subject but I know for fact scriptures are the WORD OF GOD. People who think they know better than God I pray one day will see the truth and the error to their sinful ways.
Here are some encouraging biblical scriptures below to help you get through the rest of your Monday. Remember to read, pray for understanding, and to share with others who might appreciate that extra boost of positivity:
‘but they that wait for Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.’ Isaiah 40:31
‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end. And ye shall call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. ‘ Jeremiah 29:11-12
‘being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ: ‘ Philippians 1:6
‘and hope putteth not to shame; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given unto us. ‘ Romans 5:5
‘And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose. For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren: ‘ Romans 8:28-29
‘Brethren, I count not myself yet to have laid hold: but one thing I do , forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. ‘ Philippians 3:13-14
‘For our light affliction, which is for the moment, worketh for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.’ 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
Please don’t get discouraged because Jesus is always on your side. It doesn’t matter what you have been through or done in your life He loves you! I hope these scriptures gave you some comfort and hope for your week ahead.
The best gift you can give Mom on Mother’s Day isn’t flowers, candy, a spa day, a trip, or even money. I’m sure these things won’t hurt and your Mom would appreciate anything you can give to her. The best gift you can give your Mom or any Mom on Mother’s Day is reminding her that she is special and God loves her.
Being a Mom is the hardest job on earth and it can be a thankless job to boot. I am not a Mother yet but I have a Mom who is wonderful plus most of my friends are young Moms. I also have a sister who is a Mom-to-be and my whole family is extremely excited to welcome the baby when she arrives.
Remind all the Moms in your life that Jesus is on her side especially on those really hard days. Here are seven biblical scriptures below that you can read to your Mom on Mother’s Day:
1. ‘To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: ‘Ecclesiastes 3:1
2. ‘ Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. ‘ Matthew 7:16-18
3. ‘But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. ‘ Luke 18:16
4. ‘ For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. ‘ John 13:15
5. ‘Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. ‘ Hebrews 7:25
6. ‘It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. ‘ Lamentations 3:22-23
7. ‘Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: ‘ Philippians 1:6
You can even get creative with the scriptures by printing them out and framing for Mom or personalizing a mug, blanket, or pillow for her so when she is feeling down she knows Jesus is always HERE for her.
If you are feeling anxious, depressed, or just lost your zest for life; trust me you aren’t ALONE. Everyone has these feelings every now and then, some a lot more than others. I have to admit I am one of those people who has to fight off these feelings weekly. I have to remember that my life has a purpose because I AM A CHILD OF GOD and He has a plan for me. To know that is amazing and through pray, meditation, and reading His word this plan can be seen more clearly each day.
Here are some biblical scriptures to help YOU realize this and to counter those devilish lies that seem to play out in your head. Remember negative thoughts are not healthy and this is what makes people fall into deep depressions. Let God help with this. Let Him turn your sadness into success and salvation:
1. ‘And Jehovah, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed. ‘Deuteronomy 31:8
2. ‘But thou, O Jehovah, art a shield about me; My glory, and the lifter up of my head. I cry unto Jehovah with my voice, And he answereth me out of his holy hill. [Selah ‘Psalms 3:3-4
3. ‘but they that wait for Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.’Isaiah 40:31
4. ‘The thief cometh not, but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. ‘John 10:10
Have you ever felt like your life isn’t going your way? Yes, I’m sure you have because we all have been there. It could be something as small as being upset about missing your train so now you are going to be late for work or ordering lunch and they gave you the completely wrong meal that you already prepaid for on Grub Hub, even getting caught in the rain with no umbrella or shelter to shield you from the storm. This weekend I was doing my own grumbling about my moving day not going exactly according to the plan; however, we got the move done. These are small insignificant things that most of us obsess over when we should just be grateful that we have such minor problems in the first place, right?
We all are aware of much more serious issues going on in this world, such as starvation, extreme violence, slavery, natural disasters, etc that many people around the world face, even ongoing prosecution, and punishments for being Christian. These people would LOVE to have our problems of worrying about being late for work or movers coming hours late for the job, even though in the end the job gets done and much faster than expected. I know you feel like a horrible person now, right? Well, you shouldn’t feel horrible that you worry about stuff because that is what we all do. Just remember how BLESSED YOU ARE and God is always here to help you no matter what your issues are.
‘fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. ‘Isaiah 41:10
People like friends, family, and neighbors are also here to help you through Jesus if you allow them. Here is a funny story that you may or may not have heard:
There was a man that was in the mist of a terrible storm that flooded his entire home and area that he lived. Before the storm the man prayed to God to help him during this terrible time. Then the storm happened and many people around him that did not evacuate were in serious trouble, including him. He ended up making it to the roof of his sinking home praying for God to rescue him. As he was waiting and praying a guy with a boat came by and asked him if he needed to be rescued, however the desperate man on top of the roof refused that man with the boat’s help. So the man simply continued on his way. The man on top of the roof continued to pray and wait for God to rescue him as another man with an even bigger boat came by. That man with a much bigger boat asked him to come into his boat so he can safely get to dry land. However the man on the roof refused once again. So that second man after trying to convince him that he must come because he will not survive the rising waters finally gave up and went on his way. The man on the roof of the sinking house continued to pray to God now even harder since his time was running out and he was unable to swim. After hours went by a third man came by with a speed boat and in this boat he has water and food for the man on the roof. The man with the speed boat pleaded with the man on the roof to come quick since they are expecting a tsunami and after that comes there will be no more rescues for ANYONE! However the man on the roof, weak and tired still refused the help since he was waiting for God to come rescue him. Reluctantly after 10 mins of trying to convenience the man on the roof to come with him he left to look for others who needed to be rescued. Then about an hour later the man on the roof was in mid pray the tsunami hit and everyone’s home around including his was completely submerged in water. The man on the roof ended up drowning and when he met God in heaven he was very confused and asked Him, “I prayed, prayed, and prayed some more for you to rescue me and you never did, Why not Father? God replied back to him, “You didn’t see the three boats I sent to rescue you?”.
‘and he supposed that his brethren understood that God by his hand was giving them deliverance; but they understood not. ‘Acts 7:25
I am sure you understand the moral of this story, which is God, sends people to help us in our time of need. It is up to us to take help or refuse it since we all have free will. Do not ignore what God has done for you through others and we MUST do the same back to others. This is the Christian way and this is what Jesus was trying to teach us in the Bible. This weekend my rescuer was my Dad who didn’t hesitate to come to my aid when I needed him (like many many times before). He helped my mom and me during the weekend of our move and I am grateful to have a Dad like him in my life.
Who did God send to rescue you in your time of need? Please share your story in the comments below.
‘in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you-ward. Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; ‘ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
