5 Fun Facts About The White Stuff

1. It’s a myth that no two snowflakes are exactly alike.

  

Even though this is extremely rare, it’s true that two snowflakes can be identical, do to crystals. Snowflakes form when ice crystal come together. Some snowflakes can contain several hundred crystals and some of these patterns can be found in more then one snowflake. However this is still up for debate.

 
2. Snow is translucent, not white.

  

Snow is a translucent object, which means light that partially reflects meaning letting partial light through. Light doesn’t easily pass through ice hence the bunches of white specs we see in them. This light bounces around a lot and reflects back which appears white to us, which is the light scattering.
3. The most snow to fall in a 24-hour period in the United States is 75.8 inches.

  

This happened in Silver Lake, Colorado. It began in April of 1921 in the afternoon on a high mountain top. The blizzard continued nonstop for 32 1/2 hours with a record total snowfall of 95 inches. 
4. Not every big snowstorm is a blizzard.

  

There is a very simple answer to this characteristic that most people aren’t aware of. The difference between a snowstorm and a blizzard is the strength of wind not the amount of snowfall. Blizzards are severe winds with very low visibility, according to the United Stations National Weather Services.
5. The largest snowball fight on record took place in Seattle.

  

This took place on January 12, 2014 with 5,734 participants. It was organized on a snow day by the Seattle Snow Day Center. The proceeds went to benefit the boys and girls group of Seattle. This is in the Guinness book of world records. 

Letting Go

Letting go of anger. Letting go of pain. Letting go of anguish. Letting go can be extremely difficult and it can be a long and hard process. It can raise many questions without any answers. It is a mourning, a loose even what we are letting go seems like something that is good in our life. Even when we swear we can’t live or go on. Distractions get in the way and we forget why we are here. We forget what our purpose is and we feel loose. Loose brings on sadness and pain. It robes us of what is familiar to us and that brings on stress and anxiety. Crippling anxiety and panic, unable to move or feel but the mind never turns off. Peace does not exist. Sleep is longed for but can only be achieved with medicine. Even when asleep peace is still not felt. Rest will never come and everything seems hopeless. Let go of negativity. Let go of frustration and know you can’t control certain things or people. You can’t control what people think nor do. You can’t make people see it your way because they can only see it theirs. People are different and that is beautiful. Love is beautiful pain like a mother giving birth to her child. Like rescuing a helpless person from a dangerous situation. Let go of all of those feelings of uncertainty and let in the light. The light of faith and hope. The light of forgiveness and salvation. My light shines dim in a corner of a dark, damp, and cold room. It is warmth and comfort in a cruel ruthless world. I want to let go and be happy, it is so hard to do but I must try. I am worth it and I have the strength to do it. Let go and let God in.

A Moment of Sunshine

I went for a walk today. A gorgeous day where I would usual stay in bed I broke out. I got dressed, put a touch of make up on (not for vane purposes just to feel pretty), put my curly unruly hair in a messy ponytail with no product, got my comfy sneakers on, and my shades and walked out my front door. I breathed the warm cool air, the end of summer breeze and took the sunlight on the apples of my cheeks, I felt a comfortable warming peace. I proceed down the block feeling a bit anxious but I continued walking with the sun beaming down on my hair, lighting the fading blonde streaks. It is Friday afternoon so there are clusters of people on the blocks as I walk. I walked about 10 blocks, stopped at the store, then walked the same path back home with a quick pit stop at Dunkin. On the brief walk I felt a moment of clarity, comfort, and warmth. I felt happier in that moment of sunshine that I have felt all week. Something that I try so hard to hide from gave me my moment of happiness. Something that I would have normally raced through I savored. My moment of sunshine I will feel you again another day.
